Happened yesterday at the HSK Sommer Open. By engine, White has an overwhelming advantage by simply playing Kf7 and gobbling through the king side pawns. Black can resist best by playing Kf7 and walling in the wK, which forces White to sacrifice the d-pawn and even leave Black's Pg6 alive, ending in QPP/QPP.
The best engine line is a no-brainer: 1. Kf7 a5 2. Kg7 Ke7 3. Kxh7 Kf7 4. d5 a4 5. d6 a3 6. d7 Ke7 7. Kg8 a2 8. h7 a1=Q 9. h8=Q Qa2+ (best by Engine - 9...Kxd7!?) 10. Kh7 Kxd7 11. Qg7+ Kc6 (tough luck, Qg8+ wins the new pawn endgame if Black avoids capture with check) 12. Qxg6+ Kb7 13. Qxf5
and by Nalimov, only 20 moves until curtains.
There are a lot of deviations and side variants (and the game continuation was 1. d5...which still is won!). Can you give a convincing analysis of them, best always unto a Syzygy-won position?
