I am a PhD student at the University of Pittsburgh, hoping to graduate in Summer 2021. My research is in Geometric Measure Theory, which uses tools from measure theory to do differential geometry in non-smooth settings. For example, your maps may be Lipschitz instead of, say, continuously differentiable, and your spaces may be (countable union) of images of Lipschitz maps from Euclidean spaces plus sets of negligible measure. More broadly, I do analysis of any sort on metric measure spaces, on Carnot groups (eg. the Heisenberg group), subRiemannian manifolds, etc. Prior to PhD, I got a masters of science from the Sharif University of Technology, Iran.
I write for the AMS graduate blog. Here is link to my articles there: https://blogs.ams.org/mathgradblog/author/besmayli/
Questions that do not fail to catch my attention are those with the words "distance, metric, Jacobian, Lipschitz" in them!
My math envies include probability and graph theory -- it's a shame I don't know them :(
