Questions about chess-related software, but not including chess-playing engines; there's a more specific tag for those questions, the [engines] tag.

Some types of chess-related software (beyond chess-playing engines) include:

  • Database programs for storing/studying game collections, e.g. Scid, ChessBase, Chess Assistant.
  • Software for traditional or online chess publishing, e.g. tools for producing chess diagrams, fonts, videos.
  • Software for building and maintaining opening repertoires, e.g. Chess Position Trainer, Chess Openings Wizard (formerly Bookup).
  • Tournament management software, e.g. Swiss Perfect, TournamentService.
