The Scotch Game is a chess opening beginning with the moves 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4, and is so named because of its use in an 1824 correspondence match between players from Edinburgh and London. It fell largely out of use in the 20th Century until it was revived in the hands of Garry Kasparov.
