Questions relating to the objective assessment of a position. The assessment may entail which side has the advantage, or what the best move might be.

In chess, the analysis of a position refers to the process of determining an objective evaluation of it, and what the best play for both sides would be going forward. This involves examining the various possibilities for each side at each juncture, and properly evaluating side variations.

The term can refer to the analysis that a player must perform mentally in the course of playing a game, analysis performed in preparation for play, or analysis performed after the fact in order to evaluate players' performances and find improvements.
