I want to know which international game has the longest sequence of forced moves until checkmate, even if the opponent resigned the game.

Thanks in advance.

Note : Result should not be drawn [1/2 - 1/2] (i.e we should consider 50 move rule).

This is bound to be some boring endgame position that takes 50+ moves to checkmate against perfect defence... – RemcoGerlich Oct 6 '14 at 11:53
  • @RemcoGerlich result should not be drawn.(i.e we should consider 50 move rule) – ManirajSS Oct 7 '14 at 15:13

I know, but there could easily be a capture or pawn move in between. – RemcoGerlich Oct 8 '14 at 7:22
  • With a forced move, do you mean the only winning move in a particular position ? – Peter Mar 9 '15 at 10:57

Alekhine - Yates http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1012179

19 moves. Alekhine resigned a couple of moves before mate.

  • To me it seems like Black won that game though – Scounged Feb 25 '17 at 18:00
  • Oh Yeah you're right. Alekhine resigned. Not Yates. It was his combination. – ToddM Feb 25 '17 at 18:50
