Wiki says: Magnus Carlsen is 'the current World Chess Champion, World Rapid Chess Champion, and World Blitz Chess Champion'. Wesley So is 'current World Fischer Random Chess Champion'.

  1. What world chess championships are both Magnus Carlsen and Wesley So eligible for (aside from possibly World Championship of Chess Composition, World Chess Solving Championship and World Team Chess Championship aaaand world women's in case fide allows transgender)?

I wasn't able to find a list of world championships in chess except for the wiki one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:World_championships_in_chess

One reason I'm asking is that I want to clarify my understanding:

Magnus Carlsen is the world chess champion in every possible standard category. He is the world chess champion in every possible category except chess960. Wesley So is the world chess champion in the only category that Magnus Carlsen can be but isn't. (The previous sentences exclude World Championship of Chess Composition, World Chess Solving Championship and World Team Chess Championship.)

Please correct if I misunderstood something.

  1. Where can I find an official list of world championships in chess? I mean, the one above is just wikipedia. Idk I just figure FIDE might have some list on its site somewhere.

  • If I wanted to find all championships in Hamburg, I'd look into the "Turnierordnung" of the local federation. Such a thingie must exist for FIDE, probably in the FIDE Handbook Annex. Look at the document folder on FIDE site. BTW, you forgot the "postal" chess championship. – Hauke Reddmann Apr 4 at 7:50

Does chess boxing count? – Federico Poloni Apr 4 at 21:03
  • @FedericoPoloni as a world chess championship, yes. as something any of the 2 are qualified for, no because 'The current minimum requirements to fight in a Chess Boxing Global event include an Elo rating of 1,600 and a record of at least fifty amateur bouts fought in boxing or another similar martial art' i guess. however, josh waitzkin i guess could compete for this lol – BCLC Apr 6 at 0:41

@BCLC But they could meet those requirements, if they just took some time to do it. You mentioned in your question that they could become transgender to compete in the world women's championships; is "50 amateurs boxing fight" really where you draw the line for implausibility? – Federico Poloni Apr 6 at 6:10

@FedericoPoloni although i'm thinking to edit my question into like asking 2 categories of answers: 1 for currently eligible, another for could be eligible (eg by transgender, by increasing boxing bouts, etc) – BCLC Apr 6 at 11:05
